
Getting Your Heat Right in Husky HyPET Systems
If you’ve spent any time on the floor with a high-speed PET blower, you know the drill. You’re chasing that perfect, uniform wall thickness. But when your preforms aren’t heating evenly, you end up with thin spots and bottles that just fail. It’s frustrating. That’s exactly why we built our replacement lamps to fit the Husky HyPET footprint. We wanted to fix the penetration problem once and for all.
Why the heat isn’t hitting the center
Here’s the thing about thick-walled preforms: getting heat into the core is tough. If you use the wrong kind of radiation, you get what I call the “burnt skin” effect. The outside of the plastic gets scorched, but the inside stays cold. We use short-wave infrared (SWIR) to stop that from happening. Short-wave heat actually digs deeper into the PET polymer. It reaches the middle without ruining the surface.
The nuts and bolts
We made these as drop-in replacements. No fussing around. We use high-purity quartz glass because these things take a massive amount of thermal stress during rapid cycling. If your power supply can handle it, we can spec these for high-wattage outputs so you don’t have to sacrifice your cycle speeds. And don’t worry about the wiring. We use standard R7s or SK15 connectors, so they slide right into your existing sockets. We also keep the length tolerances incredibly tight. They seat perfectly in the oven rails, which means no weird cold spots or uneven heating zones.
Real talk: Life on the shop floor
Now, high-output lamps put out a ton of heat density. That’s great for penetration, but it does put a load on your oven. Just a heads-up: if you crank the wattage too high to make up for a slow machine, your cooling system is going to have to sweat to keep the preforms from sagging. Production environments are brutal, especially when you’re running 24/7. We spent a lot of time focusing on the electrode weld quality so these don’t burn out prematurely. When you swap them in, the heat profile stays consistent across the whole oven. Less scrap. Tighter cycles. A lot less stress for you.
