
Getting Your Heat Right with Sidel Matrix SR 12 Replacements
Here is the problem when you swap out infrared lamps in a Sidel Matrix blower: the heat profile loves to shift. It’s a delicate balance. If the wattage or spectral output is off by even a tiny bit, you’re in trouble. Your PET preforms will either come out under-heated or, worse, scorched. We didn’t want to play a guessing game with that, so we built our SR 12 replacements to mirror the original temperature curves exactly. We kept the electrical and physical footprint identical to the Sidel original. Simple as that.
Why the “Exact Match” Matters
We don’t do “close enough.” To keep your heating curve steady, we match the voltage and wattage precisely to what the SR 12 needs. Think about the power density per millimeter of the quartz tube. It has to stay the same. If you drop in a lamp with different resistance, you change the current draw. Suddenly, you’ve got uneven heating zones across your oven, and your quality control becomes a nightmare. To handle the stress of rapid cycling, we use high-purity quartz. We also focus on the shortwave IR spectrum. It just gets through the PET wall faster.
The Fit
These are true drop-in replacements. We used the same connector geometry—same pins, same spacing—so you can just wire them up. No hacking at the lamp holders. We even trimmed the length down to the micron. Why? Because if there’s even a 2mm gap, you get a cold spot in your preform. And in this business, a cold spot is a failure.
A Few Real-World Tips
Now, high-density IR lamps put out some serious heat, but they’re only as good as the reflectors they sit in. If your reflectors are pitted or oxidized, it doesn’t matter if the lamp is a perfect match—you still won’t hit your target temperature. Do yourself a favor and clean those reflectors while you’re swapping the lamps. You’ll actually get the output you paid for. One last thing: check your cooling fans. These lamps run hot. If your airflow is sluggish, you’re just killing the life of the tungsten filament. Keep them cool, and they’ll last.
