If you’re running a high-speed Husky HyPET system, you know that just cranking up the wattage isn’t the answer. It’s not about how much heat you throw at the preform; it’s about where that heat actually goes. You need the energy to sink deep into the plastic, not just cook the surface. That’s why we build our lamps the way we do.
The trick to deep penetration
Ever deal with that nightmare where the outside of the preform is scorched but the inside is still cold? That’s how you get pearlescence and wonky wall thickness. It’s frustrating. To stop that, we use short-wave IR emitters. We run these lamps at higher temperatures to shift the spectrum, focusing the energy right between 0.7 and 1.4 microns. Basically, the heat slides right past the surface and hits the core. You get a consistent melt, which means your bottles actually come out looking the way they should.
Built for the grind
These aren’t generic bulbs. We make them as direct, drop-in replacements so you aren’t messing around with your setup. We use high-purity quartz glass because the thermal shock in these machines is brutal. Depending on your specific layout, we can tweak the voltage and wattage. The goal is simple: keep the heat density steady across the entire oven. And we don’t cut corners on the connectors. We stick with R7s or Sk15. Why? Because a loose connection is a recipe for arcing, and that’s the fastest way to burn out a brand-new lamp.
Real talk: The shop floor
Here is the thing: these lamps put out a massive amount of heat. That’s great for your cycle times, but it’s tough on your cooling blowers. If your airflow is clogged or your blowers are struggling, those quartz tubes are going to overheat and pop. It’s a waste of money. One more tip? Get your team to check the reflectors every single shift. A dirty reflector kills your efficiency. When that happens, the temptation is to just crank up the voltage to compensate, but all you’re doing is killing your lamps faster. Keep them clean, and the lamps will last.
