
Getting Your Sidel Matrix Heating Just Right
Here is the problem when you swap out your original Sidel Matrix lamps for something else: the temperature curve usually shifts. It sounds like a small detail, but if the wattage or light spectrum is off by even a tiny bit, you’re in trouble. Your PET preforms will either come out under-heated or, worse, scorched. We stopped that headache by building our lamps to be a dead ringer for the originals. Matching the Heat We don’t just put the right numbers on the label. We actually mirror the voltage and wattage of the OEM units. We spend a lot of time on the filament density because that controls the “heat flux”—basically, how much energy is actually hitting the plastic. If you’re running a 400V system, our tubes are wound specifically for that load. They won’t burn out early, and your PID controllers won’t have to fight a losing battle just to keep the oven temperature steady. It just works. The Hardware Side We use high-purity quartz glass. Why? Because it handles thermal shock and lets the IR heat pass through without getting blocked. And since we use standard R7s or SK15 connectors, they just slide right in. No rewiring. No messing around with the lamp holders. We even add specific coatings to the glass to tune the wavelength. This keeps the heat focused on the PET material instead of wasting energy by heating up the machine frame. A Quick Heads-Up These lamps pack a lot of heat to keep your cycle times fast. But here’s the thing: running them at full blast puts more pressure on your oven’s cooling fans. If your vents are clogged or the fans are dying, that trapped heat can eat away at the lamp ends. Keep your airflow clean, and you’ll easily get 5,000+ hours of life out of them. Since the footprint and electrical profile match perfectly, you can keep your production speed exactly where it is. No need to spend your weekend recalibrating the entire oven.
