If you’re running industrial bread ovens for 10 hours a day, you know the struggle. Between drying those crusts and the constant pre-heating, your infrared lamps are basically in a fight for their lives. I get asked all the time: Can a high-quality domestic quartz tube actually keep up with the big-name brands? Or are you just asking for a breakdown in the middle of a rush? Here’s the real deal. It all comes down to the guts of the tube. The secret is in the quartz purity and how the filament is wound. When you’re pulling 10-hour shifts, you need a tungsten filament that stays put. If it starts to migrate or thin out, you’re in trouble. We build ours to hit the same wattage and voltage as the premium brands, but the real trick is keeping the heat density steady. If that filament is even slightly off-center, you get hot spots. And hot spots are basically a countdown to a burnout. The trade-offs you should know about. We use high-grade quartz glass because we want as much IR transmission as possible. For bread, we usually stick with short-wave or medium-wave emitters. They hit the surface fast. It’s great for speed, but it puts a lot of pressure on your electrical contacts. If you’re packing these tubes into a dense array, make sure your contactors can handle the actual inrush current. Don’t just look at the nominal wattage on the box—that’s a mistake that leads to fried components. Will they actually last? The gap has closed. If a seal is sloppy, oxygen leaks in and eats the filament in a matter of weeks. It’s a nightmare.
